About Eric Riley

Coaching/Teaching Experience

For 20 years, TeamRiley founder Eric Riley has coached some of the world’s top-ranked tennis players to numerous international titles on the professional tour. Several of Eric’s players have achieved #1 world rankings in doubles and reached the top-five ranking in singles. Eric coached International Tennis Hall of Fame inductee Pam Shriver through the final decade of her career. He also coaches career doubles Grand Slam winner Lisa Raymond. In 1997, Eric coached Lisa to the Australian Open Doubles Final, where her partner was Lindsay Davenport. In July 2008, Lisa Raymond partnered with Sam Stosur and got to the Wimbledon Doubles Final where they lost to Venus and Serena Williams.

Although Eric has worked with some of the world’s best players, he is dedicated to helping players at all levels improve. He draws on his professional-level coaching and playing experience to help players refine their strokes, increase strength and stamina, and improve concentration.

Over the years Eric has worked with many top-ranked junior players who have gone on to compete at the college level. Recent players have attended Harvard, Yale, Brown, Columbia, MIT, Princeton, the University of Pennsylvania, and the United States Naval Academy. See Eric’s player list.

Playing Experience

Before starting his coaching and teaching career, Eric spent eight years on the ATP Tour, competing in 18 countries and maintaining a world ranking in singles and doubles from 1984 to 1991. He was team captain and the #1 player at the University of Pennsylvania from 1981 to 1983, graduating with a double major in International Relations and East Asian studies. He also was an All-Ivy selection.

His twin brother, Mark Riley, coached the men’s tennis team at the University of Pennsylvania for seven years and is currently the men’s tennis coach at Kalamazoo College. While at the University of Pennsylvania, Mark coached the men’s tennis team to two Ivy League titles in 2006 and 2007. Mark Riley held an ATP tour ranking between 1984-1988.

Eric’s other brother, Dr. Malcolm Riley, III, is the strength, conditioning, and nutrition expert for Team Riley, Inc. Eric’s father, Malcolm Riley Jr., just finished a successful tenure as President of the USTA Middle States Tennis Association.
